Soho is the area bound by Houston Street, Broadway, Canal Street and Hudson River. The name stands for "South of Houston". It has become the Village's chic southern neighbor, with expensive cafes, restaurants, art galleries and shops selling the very latest in fashion and housewares. Its history has followed the pattern of Greenwich Village. Artists who couldn't afford the rents after the Village's commercialization moved south to the derelict lofts and warehouse floors of the then industrial district. The most successful were able to install kitchens, bathrooms. and comfortable interiors, while others made do with bare walls and floors for the sake of ample space and light. Now the same lofts sell in the multi-million-dollar range, and it's a fight between real artists and real millionaires. What's New ? : New Photo [139-144] Added.    LES, Nolita Photo Gallery
