Downtown has a different face in comparison to Midtown. Downtown is first originated area of settlement from Europe so that it has it affected to the color of each area, Greenwich Village (England), East Village (Eastern Europe and India), China Town.... The sourthern edge is on the very solid rock and it made this area as world center of the finance. One of the characteristics of the area is its zoning. Most of the area in Manhattan has checkboard system as well as most of the city in U.S., but Manhattan's landform didn't allow to make its street slanting. That made this area more complicated and mixtured cultural area.
